European Award in Human Genetics 1997 – VI Edition – Prof Leena Peltonen

Prof. Leena Peltonen has directed the molecular genetics laboratory of the Finnish Institute of Health, has distinguished herself in the mapping, cloning and characterization of genes responsible for different hereditary diseases. She discovered the type I Polyendocrinopathy gene called APECED, the disease Mauro Baschirotto was suffering from, identified 10 years after his Death.
